A.L. Sinclair

AUTHOR | SPEAKER

Hi, I’m Amanda!

I’m a recovering lawyer turned dark fantasy author exploring the intersections of female rage, power, trauma and systemic control.

After a c-PTSD diagnosis in 2020, I became a trauma-informed coach to help other women heal and reclaim their sovereignty.

I write fiercely feminist stories woven with mythology, mysticism, and lush, shadow-psyche worlds.

When I’m not arguing with morally complex characters, you’ll find me barefoot in the kitchen, whisky in hand, plotting revolutions — on and off the page — with my two cats.

With gods walking among courtiers and a 'lush,' eloquent writing style, Sinclair has established a high bar for the upcoming 2026 release. This debut excerpt signals the arrival of a significant new talent in historical fantasy, leaving the reader eager for the full weight of the narrative in May.

A Song of Stars

Rebel. Witch. Pawn in a divine war. Aurelia Blackthorn didn’t intend to join the witches’ revolution against her father’s theocratic regime — but she might just be the one to bring the whole damn thing to its knees.

When Aurelia’s magick erupts in the heart of New York, she becomes the number one target of daddy-dearest’s witch hunters. Her only chance at survival is an uneasy alliance with Zephyr, the rebellion’s dangerously alluring leader.

As Aurelia’s powers grow, so does the magnetic attraction between her and Zephyr. Together, they race to gather the missing pieces of a weapon that could turn the tide of war, before the regime can get it.

But every mission plunges her further into a secret war between gods, fae, witches, and mortals — and straight to the truth about her own bloodline. Aurelia may just be the key to their salvation…or complete ruin.

What People Are Saying

“A stunning debut that brilliantly mixes Tudor history with mythology - gods walking among courtiers, witches scheming for survival, and Anne Boleyn as a desperate queen playing her final hand…A.L. Sinclair's writing is lush, and the relationship between George and Zephyr is swoony. The queer-positive, magic-infused reimagining of the Boleyn downfall is so unique.”

— Mallory, Goodreads Review

“What a perfect introduction to the upcoming novella, The Witch Queen’s Gambit! The writing style is poetic and has a traditional feel that makes the historical setting, characters and plot feel genuine. The dialogue between the characters is snappy and meaningful, and you can feel the tension between them. I really enjoyed the dynamic between George and Zephyr, and am definitely hoping to see more of this duo in the upcoming novella.”

— MJ, Goodreads Review

“In the opening chapters of The Witch Queen’s Gambit, A.L. Sinclair demonstrates a sophisticated command of historical atmosphere, seamlessly blending meticulous Tudor detail with a rich, arcane mythology…With gods walking among courtiers and a 'lush,' eloquent writing style, Sinclair has established a high bar for the upcoming 2026 release. This debut excerpt signals the arrival of a significant new talent in historical fantasy, leaving the reader eager for the full weight of the narrative in May.”

— Mandy Britt, Goodreads Review

“George Boleyn’s relationship with Zephyr (a god wearing a man’s name) is tender, electric, and heartbreakingly complicated, and one desperate choice shifts their dynamic in a way that instantly raises the stakes…Anne’s POV adds a sharp, fierce edge, she’s ambitious, cornered, and terrifyingly determined to protect her daughter and the future of witches, even if it means bargaining with power she can’t fully control."

— Sydney Jesson, Goodreads Review

“The writing is beautiful. The prose is as complex as it is clear…like a meal that is both gorgeous and delicious. The historical setting comes alive vividly as a character of its own, and as a Tudor enthusiast, the depth of accuracy so cleverly woven with fiction makes this story especially tantalizing…a feast for the brain.”

— Lauren Neely, Goodreads Review

“Only a few chapters in, and I’m totally hooked! The world feels fully developed and alive, the characters leap off the page, and the dynamic between Zephyr and George is already full of tension and emotion that pull you right into the story. The mix of history, intrigue and magic makes it impossible to stop reading, I have to know what happens next!”

Work in Progress

  • A Witch Queen's Gambit

A Witch Queen’s Gambit is part of The Starlight Chronicles. Set 500 years before A Song of Stars, this novella follows George Boleyn, Zephyr, and Anne Boleyn as they plot to take down the Tudors, destroy the Church’s hold on Britain and set up the first witch dynasty in the western world.

  • A Song of Stars (Querying)

Combining the found family dynamics, gritty world-building, and voice-y prose of NINTH HOUSE by LEIGH BARDUGO, the searing political tension of THE CITY WE BECAME by N.K. JEMSIN and the slow-burn tension and forbidden romance of THE NIGHT CIRCUS by ERIN MORGENSTERN.

  • A Hunger So Dark and Wicked

A Hunger So Dark and Wicked is a gothic fantasy horror, lovers-to-enemies, villain origin story of a bi-racial woman set in the late 18th Scotland. It has a dual timeline, dual POV.  Imagine the gothic-horror sensibilities of Penny Dreadful and the morally charcoal feminist villainy of Mary Sibley from Salem.

The whole room fell silent when she said "It’s not about women against men, it’s about all of us against the patriarchy" - a stand out quote of the whole event. I highly recommend Amanda Louisa if you're looking for a speaker who has profound insights that will capture the undivided attention of your guests.”
